Windu

I am trying to learn Indonesian by using Duolingo. Not very long ago I learned a new word “windu”.

Windu means eight years. This got me curious. In Chinese we have “甲子" (wood rat) which means 60 years. However, that’s because of ganzhi (干支，stems-and-branches). How come there are this “windu”? Can anybody solve this mystery?
